The Readiness Checklist
Ask yourself these questions honestly. If you can answer "yes" to all of them, you're likely ready.
Basic Control
- Can you start and stop smoothly every time?
- Can you maintain your lane without drifting?
- Are your turns smooth and properly positioned?
Safety Skills
- Do you automatically check mirrors and blind spots?
- Can you judge gaps and distances accurately?
- Do you always signal before turning or changing lanes?
Special Maneuvers
- Can you parallel park in one attempt most of the time?
- Can you complete a three-point turn confidently?
- Can you back up in a straight line?
Mental Readiness
- Can you drive without someone telling you what to do?
- Can you recover calmly from small mistakes?
- Do you feel confident, not just hopeful?
The Instructor Test
Your instructor's opinion matters most. If they say you're ready, trust them. If they suggest more practice, listen to them.
